House in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The renovation of an existing house in Harare turned out to be a major rebuilt and it wound up almost double the size of the original house. Site area 14 000sq.m. House 1052sq.m.
From the street an off-shutter concrete wall and a rusted metal screen hides a guardhouse and the staff quarters.
On approaching the house, a solid off-shutter wall with a long slit adjoins a floating rusted metal screen porte cochere. The exterior is a dark grey render where not off-shutter concrete or steel mesh.
From the porte cochere stepping stones lead over a water feature to a double volume entrance hall where a staircase floats over water feature with the dining room behind it. From the hall there is access to a guest bedroom, with the double volume billiards room / bar and family room open plan to the breakfast area and kitchen.
A large atrium is situated between the hall and garages, with access from the hall through the dining room to a private lounge and study which connect to a four-car garage.
A lanai leads from the billiards room and family room onto a pool, with a path leading to the tennis court where a firepit, home theatre, change room and a pavilion overlooking the tennis court, are situated.
On the first floor are three suites for the family as well as a main suite, pyjama lounge, gymnasium and a roof deck with barbeque. All the rooms lead to balconies.
