This project is a redesign of an old villa situated on a south-sloping plot in Malawi.

Most of the original house was incorporated in the new layout, with a few internal walls removed to create an open plan layout, of which a large part is double volume.

A new first floor and pool was added to a lanai.

The use of a steel framework, full glass walls, and folding steel solar screens create a layered effect, while the screens double duty as security devices.

Exposed concrete and rusted steel garage doors were designed, enhancing the textured look.

The views to the south were retained, while the north side of the house is fully glazed with solar screens to avoid direct sunshine, yet still allow sufficient natural light flow.
